The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 Review

Warning: Mild spoilers from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 ahead.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been a bit of a slow burn, although a visually stunning one. However, things have really picked up with last week’s episode 5, and now tonight’s episode 6. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 gives fans an incredible action sequence within the first ten minutes, a massive bloody battle as it starts to wind down, and then a cliffhanger that will have viewers awaiting next week with baited breath.

Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir)

Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) is once again front and center. He never allows fear to show through when attacking the orcs, or even in his near death moments. He has formed a bond with the humans, and he is willing to sacrifice just about anything, including himself, in order to save them from the dark side. This is more than solidified in this episode as nearly dies at the hand of an orc, and also straight up risks his life when telling Adar to let the humans go, and then he might pass along the blade that Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) found.

His feelings for humans are apparent, but it is when Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi) nearly dies that his heart is clearly aching. The two of them are an unlikely couple, but one that just might make it past all of this craziness. The two are not in The Lord of the Rings books and future lore, which means there is no way to predict exactly what will happen between them.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6 raises the stakes a bit while focusing on the events surrounding Ostirith, where Bronwyn and Theo live. After Arondir attacks the orcs, they retaliate and hit even harder. What follows is a massive battle sequence that is filled with blood and death.

One issue here is that it is quite dark, literally, and hard to see. However, the use of fire to light up the night sky and allow viewers to see what is happening clearer was a smart movie, and is much appreciated.

Joseph Mawle (Adar)

Fans also get quite a bit of time with Adar in this episode, which is a really fun story to explore. He knows how to push buttons, and it is interesting to see how the corruption has affected him.

Galadriel eventually shows up to give a helping hand in yet another massive battle featured in this episode of The Rings of Power. Theo and his friends stare at her, sort of in awe of her fighting abilities. Knowing that Theo will be led towards corruption makes this a strange take on things.

Halbrand also has a few key moments in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 6, especially when Bronwyn flat out asks him if he is the King they were promised. There is some speculation online that he is actually Sauron in disguise, and if so, this scene is made even more powerful and intriguing.

Morfydd Clark (Galadriel)

Once again we are left with a cliffhanger ending. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power started out strong, and then dipped for an episode or two, but things are really starting to get interesting. Battles are being fought, blood is being spilled, and it is only a matter of time before even more lore is explored.

It was a brilliant move to put aside the story of Durin IV and Elrond, as well as the Harfoots. This would have made things a bit too messy and convoluted. Focusing on one area and just a few characters has been key in delivering episodes that work.

About The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history.

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power episode 6 is now streaming on Prime Video.
