Ozark Season 4 Part 1 Review

Ozark has and always will be one of my favorite shows to ever come to Netflix. With The final season being split into two parts, there were a lot of expectations going into the first. Thankfully this first part isn’t just a fantastic beginning for the end, it’s starting to show why Ozark could be one of the best TV SHOWS of all time.

Ozark Season 3 ended with a huge cliff hanger and a jaw dropping moment. The second Helen Pierce’s head got blown off my jaw hit the floor and I replayed that moment in utter shock of what just happened. Ozark season 4 takes the repercussions of this event and moves along in an organic manner that never lets up. As the first episode starts off as an epilogue to set up what the story is for this season — all the dirty things that the family and of course the cartel did all come back in full force.

Not being able to get into spoilers will make talking about season 4 part 1 a bit difficult as each episode lends a new dynamic to the mold that we have seen before. Just as the last few seasons have pretty much accomplished. Each main character has something to do as well as adding dynamics to situations that could strike a terrible toll. Surely though Season 4 Part 1 brings what Ozark is all about and that is the family element. I like to say that Ozark is like Breaking Bad but the twist is what if the family was involved.

This season continues that but gives us strikingly more dynamics with Omar Navarro’s family and getting to meet his nephew Javi creates some of the most anxiety inducing sequences ever. The acting is off the charts from Alfonso Herrera and is some of the best we have seen in this show. Speaking of acting though the entire cast just continues to display some of the best we’ve ever seen in their career.

Jason Bateman is amazing, Laura Linney has never been better, but once again Julia Garner deserves all of the awards for her performance as Ruth Langmore. She is in a sense the heart of this show and displays the element of the Ozarks that is needed to truly fall in love with this show. Even when her story moments aren’t the most interesting they’re interesting because of her.

Speaking of uninteresting, this is where I want to get into some minor nitpicks with this first part. As much as I LOVED this first part there are a couple storylines that I’m interested to see if they end up going anywhere in the second half. If they do then completely ignore what I’m about to say — The two subplots in here both involve Wendy Played by Laura Linney. One of them is about getting politicians on board of this new company they have, the other has to do with her and Jonah.

Jonah was close to her brother who sadly passed away in the previous season due to her choices. This plays a huge part and while I don’t mind how Jonah was acting there are certain choices done between the two that I need to see the payoff too fully in the next part of the season. As for the political storyline, it seems like it got dropped the last two episodes. I understand why but some reference to it would have helped a lot. Additionally, the newest storyline about a medical company getting involved with the cartel was BRILLIANT and was very impressive to see the direction that went in.

Ozark Season 4 Part 1 continues its incredible streak of just getting better and better, while it’s hard to judge the entire thing without the second part. I’m so happy to have finally gotten this masterful start. The stress and anxiety continues to grow with every lingering moment — and the characters are only getting stronger with the performances as well.

Part 2 should be coming out soon and I can’t wait to see what Netflix and the crew have in store for us after the MAJOR Cliffhanger we got this time — I mean when you see that ending you will understand why my jaw hit the floor once again. Ozark is the perfect show to get into right now before it’s end!
