In this interview Nickelodeon’s Warped cast confesses their favorite comic books, cosplay, how they are like their characters, and more!
Nickelodeon’s Warped! is all about comic books and friendship — so you know I am all in! I don’t even need to see an episode to know that my 9 and 10 year old daughters and myself will have an absolute blast with this show. In celebration of the premiere, I talked with two of the stars of the show — Ariana Molkara who plays Darby, and Christopher Martinez who plays Hurley. It was clear to me that this cast has become great friends, and had an absolute blast on set!
If you have seen the trailer for Warped! than you know things get messy. I just had to ask Ariana and Christopher about that, who both gave major props to the effects team from bringing these things from the pages of the script to the set. Making them a reality was a whole lot of fun!
When asked if they are anything like their characters, both Ariana and Christopher say they can relate to their on screen counterparts.
“I’m a big cooking person. When I was auditioning for Hurley — reading the description that he loves pizza — one of the things my parents always told me was that they think I was Italian in a past life. I’m always eating Italian food and cooking it. My dad and I love making pizza. That’s something that we actually do here. Being Hurley is very similar to my life. Even though there are some different decisions I would make if I was Hurley — we have that same love for food.” – Christopher Martinez
“We’re both total geeks. We embrace the nerdom, 100%. I am also very much into fashion. I love fashion! I have never designed my own clothes, but I’ve upcycled a few things.” – Ariana Molkara
Since this show is all about comic books, I just had to ask them what they are reading, and if they have any suggestions. Both of them love Spider-Man (who doesn’t) and Ariana and I instantly bonded when she said Guardians of the Galaxy. If you have been around Mama’s Geeky for a while, you know that I have a full Guardians of the Galaxy sleeve tattoo, so this made me smile from ear to ear.
Christopher recently picked up some Spider-Man Noir comics, but hasn’t started reading them yet. I have read them and I can say, he is in for a lot of fun! While Christopher has been to Comic Con before, Ariana has never been. They confess it is something they would love to do together as a cast — fully in cosplay! Christopher admits that he is not sure why he hasn’t dived into the cosplay world yet, but is eager to do so.
Fans of Ariana Molkara might know that she loves to sing. When I asked her if we will see Darby singing in Warped! she didn’t give a straight answer, but is certainly seems like we might! She confessed that Darby will be stepping outside of her comfort zone this season, and viewers should keep an eye out for that — don’t worry Ariana, we will!
